About

I'm a Principal Technologist at AWS, where I work with enterprise customers on cloud architecture, distributed systems, and the organisational patterns that make large-scale software sustainable.

Before AWS I spent a decade building and operating production systems across fintech, media, and SaaS. I've been the person paged at 2am and the person designing the system so nobody gets paged at 2am.

This site is where I write about things I've learned, patterns I've found useful, and ideas I'm still working through. If something here is useful to you, I'd love to hear about it.

Now

What I'm focused on right now:

  • Building serverless event-driven systems with my customers at AWS
  • Writing about distributed systems patterns and what actually works in production
  • Exploring AI-assisted development tooling and where it genuinely helps

Focus Areas

Cloud Architecture

Designing systems that scale, fail gracefully, and stay maintainable as teams grow.

Serverless

Event-driven architectures, Lambda patterns, and the operational reality of going serverless.

TypeScript

Type-safe systems from the database to the browser. Strict mode, always.

Observability

The gap between what systems do in theory and what they do at three in the morning.
